The District is responsible for the dredging of the entrance channel, Pierpont Basin, Stub Channel, and the inner harbor; however, as leases are renegotiated, those lessees with water area (marinas) are assuming fiscal responsibility for water depth maintenance within their respective premises. The District contracts and funds the periodic dredging of the Pierpont Basin, Stub Channel and the inner harbor. For the last twenty-two years the District has successfully obtained federal funding for the Army Corps of Engineers (“ACOE”) to provide maintenance dredging of the federal entrance channel area.
